Krishi Vigyan Kendra Gajapati

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Gajapati the “Farm Science Centre” of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi was established in 2005. The KVK works for Gajapati District of Odisha State and hosted by Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Siripur, Bhubaneswar. The KVK is situated R.Udaygiri of Gajapati district.l The KVK is situated R.Udaygiri of Gajapati district. The objective of the KVK is to work on assessment, refinement and transfer of agricultural and allied technologies and transfer of skill through training in agriculture and allied sectors for the farmers/farm women of the district.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a dream project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is mandated for assessment, refinement and demonstration of improved agro-technologies/products to bring social and economic upliftment of farming community of the country .The KVK , Gajapati since its inception from 2006 has been striving hard to achieve this mandate under the aegis of Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology ,Bhubaneswar . The activities of the KVK have supported a cross section of farming communities to enhance productivity of rice, , vegetables ,oilseeds & pulses by 7.6,15.6,20 & 8 % respectively. The achievement has been possible with the evaluation of new technology through On Farm Trials in participatory research mode creating an impact to accept the best technology through Front Line Demonstration followed by capacity building training programmes. It is needless to highlight the impact of Kissan mela, exhibitions, field days and other extension activities & published literatures which has motivated the farmers of the district in this direction.

Mandate of KVK

On-farm testing to identified the location specification of agriculture technologies under various farming systems.
Front line demonstration to establish its production potentials on the farmers field .
Training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies, training of unemployed rural youth and training of extension personnel of line departments to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
To work as resource and knowledge center of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public/private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
Organisation of various extension activities and publication of varied literatures to create awareness about the improved technology.
